University of Northumbria

The Challenge

Northumbria University was embarking on a major redevelopment of their city centre estates in Newcastle, to create a unified City Campus to match and underpin the University's vision for the future.

As part of the project, the University of Northumbria re-evaluated their communications strategy which initially entailed deploying a converged voice and data solution, with a phased plan of moving towards unified communications to improve the communications and collaborations between staff and locations.

The Solution

NEC deployed a converged voice over IP (VoIP) communications solution which incorporated the University’s existing cordless DECT infrastructure and provided additional resilience with a back-up facility to help eliminate potential vulnerability. In addition, the solution gives a very flexible number portability solution, meaning the University of Northumbria can easily move individuals throughout the network - a very important consideration for a network of this size.

The University of Northumbria is a long-standing customer and partner of NEC, and has established an excellent working relationship over the years. The University piloted alternative systems but the NEC solution was the one which had the best fit with our requirements. <NEXT>
