Instant messaging

Unlike other messaging applications such as voicemail and email, Instant Messaging provides a quick and easy method for engaging with others in a 2 way communication – which could be 1 to 1 or as a group/team – independent of their location.

Often valuable time is lost waiting for a response to an email or voicemail. Yet with instant messaging the interaction is as instant as a voice call although less intrusive. In addition, instant messaging has the added benefit of being able to transfer data whilst interacting in real time, and when incorporated into unified communications solutions, the participants also get the ability to escalate an instant messaging session to a voice and/or video call.

Industry experts Gartner, predict that secure, enterprise grade instant messaging will become the de facto tool for communication by 2011. Instant messaging usage in the workplace is already estimated to be in the region of 75%, but with users optimizing less secure public solutions.
